Chipping Barnet Foodbank Amplifies Its Voice by Joining Citizens UK

At Chipping Barnet Foodbank, we are committed not only to supporting people in crisis with emergency food and support, but also to working towards a future where food banks are no longer needed. As part of the Trussell network of foodbanks, we recognise that ending hunger means addressing the underlying causes of poverty, which requires campaigning, influencing policy, and raising our collective voice.

For this reason, we are delighted to announce that Chipping Barnet Foodbank has become a member of the North London Chapter of Citizens UK. Citizens UK build positive working relations between civil society organisations like schools, universities, faith groups, charities, unions, and in our case a food bank!

By building positive relationships between the membership, elected power holders, and businesses, Citizens UK have a track record of facilitating shifts in the balance of power, bringing people together across their differences, and finding common ground to win change.

You do not have to look hard to see the connection between what Citizens UK have campaigned on in London and the reasons why clints need to use Chipping Barnet Foodbank. Examples include the treatment of asylum seekers in hotels, failure to pay the London Living Wage and the management of social housing and council tax.

By partnering with Citizens UK, we are amplifying our voice for change by bringing in other community partners.

However, it is important to understand that our membership is a proactive membership, and we are proactive contributors. So, for that reason we will be working on the building of a Chipping Barnet Foodbank Campaign Team which will involve training given by Citizens UK and promises to take us on some exciting and fun campaign journeys.
